Samsung Galaxy SII beats Apple iPhone in T3 Awards

Samsung's Galaxy SII won the Phone of the Year at the T3 Gadget Awards last night, beating Apple's iPhone 4.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is considered by many to be the best Android phone currently on the market.

The Galaxy SII, which has been the subject of a legal dispute between Samsung and Apple, beat the iPhone 4 to the Phone of the Year award. It's the first time in three years that the award hasn't gone to Apple or HTC.

Samsung's flagship Android handset has a 4.3-inch AMOLED screen, an 8-megapixel camera and 1GB of RAM. Last week, Apple announced the iPhone 4S, a faster version of the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4S goes on sale on Friday.

“The Samsung Galaxy S II is a gorgeous looking phone with slick operation, a great social hub and the best camera on any smartphone to date,” says Luke Peters, editor of T3. “It has great integration with Samsung’s TVs and a screen that matches the iPhone 4.”

Though Apple missed out on the Phone of the Year award, the company did take home three awards. The MacBook Air 11-inch won the T3 Design Award and Computer of the Year, while the iPad won Tablet of the Year.

The big award of the night went to Microsoft, however. Kinect, the Xbox motion sensor gaming accessory, won both Gaming Gadget of the Year and overall Gadget of the Year.
